The clients requested a modern contemporary feel to their front garden but wanted to retain much of the existing mature planting for example the rhododendron, camellia and maple tree.
The current Garden had an old wobbly set of stone crazy paving steps that was slippery and wet as the rain flowed straight over them making them rather dangerous.
In order to keep the mature planting, we kept roughly the same path direction, but added a new planter in front of the entrance to the house plus a dustbin storage area at the street level so the bins didn’t need to be dragged up the steps once a week or left on the pavement so it was obvious to burglars that owners were absent.
In order to give a more contemporary feel we use Grey ceramic tiles for the threads rises and capping stones. We also painted the rendered retaining walls to match to update the planting. We added a palm and yucca at the lower entrance and cord line hydrangeas and phormiuns to the planter. We also added peonies, hydrangeas, evergreen euphorbias, and azaleas to the main planting beds to add colour and interest at a lower level.
