This Listed property in Brighton has a lot of decorative wrought ironwork balconies which in the back of the building sit above and overshadow the lower terrace . The planting bed is therefore fairly dark for the majority of the day.

We tried to lighten the space by decorating all the white walls and the lower brick planter wall. We also added better drainage facilities and painted the floor in light grey.

Planting was largely shade loving plants - Mahonia, Ferns, Fatsia and Foxgloves.

To the front of the property we added succulents to the shallow troughs and euphorbia and taxus baccata topiary balls to the window boxes.
