The clients have inherited an urban bungalow and are keen to significantly enhance its kerb appeal, understanding that first impressions begin before guests step inside. With a healthy budget and a clear vision, they want the front garden to reflect a modern, eco-conscious aesthetic while remaining welcoming and practical. The design must balance a contemporary, structured look with sustainability, biodiversity, and functionality.

Key requirements include retaining vehicle access to the garage, providing a direct and durable route to the front door and side gate, and integrating some hard surfaces without dominating the space. The clients are particularly interested in features that support good drainage and energy efficiency—such as a rain garden—and favour planting schemes that include drought-tolerant grasses and Mediterranean aromatic plants.

The garden should offer an inviting and open presence to the street while incorporating a private, sunny seating area. As they live near a school, the brief includes reducing noise from passing traffic during peak times, possibly through clever screening or sound-softening planting. There’s also a desire for the garden to look attractive from both the street and interior windows, with views that frame key planting or sculptural features. The result will be a stylish, functional space that embraces both modern living and natural beauty.
