The owner of this property wanted an outdoor pool with step access which complimented the modern architecture of the house.
He had grown up children so wanted an area for deckchairs in the sun or laying by the pool. He was also away for considerable lengths of time so wanted low maintenance planting. He requested trees to give screening from the neighbours and native South African planting such as bougainvillea, agave, agapanthus, bird of paradise and banana palms.
Although situated on a steep slope, the pool is sheltered from the wind by the surrounding trees, but open to the amazing views - as it is raised above the level of the lower houses.
We planted some bougainvillea on the lower trellis so it peaks just above the level of the water. The pump room is situated on the lower level of the house reached by stepping stones in front of the pool which has more naturalistic fynbos planting. The lighting of the pool also gives the house a very alluring appeal at night.
