The clients, a professional Scottish couple in their thirties with demanding City jobs, are seeking a sanctuary garden that offers respite from their busy lives. Their vision is for a naturalistic, free-flowing space—something that feels untamed yet intentional, echoing the wild beauty of the Scottish and Swiss landscapes they love. The garden must be stylish and impressive enough to entertain, with a dining area for at least six that can expand for larger gatherings, a discreet bar for serving drinks, and a cinema screen or large TV for sharing holiday memories or hosting outdoor film nights.
They want a garden that transitions effortlessly from day to evening use, balancing social zones with quiet, shaded corners for reading or relaxing. Sustainability and low maintenance are key—both in planting and material choices—given their limited free time. While they don’t require a lawn, the garden should be adaptable and safe, with future-proofing in mind for children and older family members. Above all, this space should reflect their lifestyle and passions—climbing, trekking, running, and yoga—while offering the freedom and tranquillity of the great outdoors. The design will be elegant yet natural, practical yet inspiring: a garden to enjoy, show off, and grow with.
